What’s New for the 2019 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan?
The new 2019 C-Class is here, with some exciting new performance features, a small but noticeable facelift, and a few interior design and safety changes as Mercedes looks to continue their success with one of the more luxurious sedans on the market.
Performance and Design
The C-Class sedan’s mid-cycle upgrade comes with some noticeable changes to both performance and design. The previous engine churned out 241 horsepower, while the new turbocharged 2-L inline 4 cylinder now packs an impressive punch of 255 horses, and its nine-speed automatic transmission continues to produce 273 lb-ft of torque, no improvement over the 2018 model. When it comes to exterior design, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class has looked to provide some subtle but impressive additions without messing with the formula that has given the manufacturer glowing reviews since the overhaul back in 2014. The front bumper now comes with all-new LED headlamps and a standard chrome trim, while the rear has been subtly altered to reinforce Mercedes-Benz desire to usher in an age of more continuous and flowing design rather than an edgy, creased look. In terms of fuel economy, the refreshed C-Class will come with a more efficient engine.
Safety and Entertainment
The latest C-sedan comes standard with a 7-inch infotainment screen mounted in the center, no change from previous models. However, a new steering wheel comes with cruise control buttons and touchpads seen in other Mercedes-Benz models. Adding to the updated interior driving experience, the 2019 model boasts some new and improved safety features. Active Lane Change Assist allows the driver to automatically perform a lane change when the turn signal is used and the car deems it safe to switch. Similar technology allows for an even more impressive feature: Adaptive Cruise Control. This system uses data from Mercedes-Benz global map database to slow the vehicle when approaching a turn and accelerate back to previous speed when a straight is detected, imitating a human driver and eliminating some of the need for attentiveness when in cruise control. In addition, the car’s camera/radar system have improved to allow for better reactions to driving conditions. Mercedes Me, the manufacturer’s phone app, also gets some new updates. New features include a notification when your car is damaged while parked and a picture of the car that inflicted the damage. As previously mentioned, the latest C-Class build comes with no change to the standard infotainment system, but a new option for improvement has been added. The C-Class sedan has added two inches to the original 8.3-inch display option as an upgrade over the 7-inch standard, bumping the size to 10.3 inches. Additionally, an ultra-wide high beam is available as an upgrade to the LED headlight system, and an option for aerodynamic wheels have the potential to increase fuel efficiency.
